The pupil's comments about their residential at Grinton Lodge
I have learnt that everyone is different and they do things in different ways.
I’ve learnt that I can survive a whole week, yes a whole week, without technology.
I realised how small and insignificant I was compared to the world and understood how beautiful and fascinating our planet is.
Leaning into the wind on Fremington Edge was my best moment because I felt weightless.
It has been amazing. I really pushed myself on the Fremington Edge walk and I ended up first back!
Standing on Fremington Edge was my best moment because I’ve never been so high up. It felt amazing.
My favourite moment was gathering round the campfire and giving each other compliments and getting to know everyone better.
I have learnt that I can reach my goals but only if I work for them.
When I was on the top, I felt conqueror of the world.
Taking life at a slower pace changed the way you look at the world. I truly understand why we’re so lucky to be here.
Always be determined and never give up. Always think of what you will feel like when you have achieved.
Standing over Reeth, like a giant, on top of Fremington Edge was my best moment because I just felt so free. I had nothing to hold me back.
I’ve learnt that I’m not always right and I should think before I speak about something.
I think I will go outside more instead of staying inside.
I had one of the best days I will have because I saw a grouse up close.
Being on top of Fremington Edge was my best moment because after how long it took to get up, I was proud of myself and everyone else.
My best moment was enjoying the Grinton Lodge grounds; I was always excited.
I’ve learned that I can be tidy if I want to be tidy.
I think I will make my family stress a bit less by being more helpful.
I’ve learned that I can talk to almost anyone because I talked to most people an all the three walks that we did.
It’s nice not to have to get in a car whenever I need to go somewhere.
I am a little surprised because of how much freedom we have had.
Standing proudly on Fremington Edge was my best moment because I felt like I had achieved something I never thought I could achieve.
Looking at the mountain we were going to climb and getting up it is definitely my best and favourite moment because climbing the mountain looked really hard but I persevered and got to the top.
I will try to be more independent at home.
I think this week has changed how I will use technology in a way that I don’t rush as much to play.
I have learned that if I am motivated, I can do things a lot better.
I have learned not to underestimate myself since I have done a lot of things I never thought I would do.
I placed my arms in the air horizontally, closed my eyes then I felt like I was flying above the miniscule people.
My best moment was listening around the campfire to so many people saying good deeds about other people rather than themselves: heart-warming, included, happy, cheerful, calm, relaxed, cosy.
I’ve learned that I really enjoy nature and walking with friends because it just feels so peaceful and calming.
I’m going to spend less time watching TV and be out more in the garden.
I learned that I can believe.
I’ve learnt that even if sometimes you don’t like what your friends do, it doesn’t mean you can’t get along.
Walking has been amazing for many different reasons: seeing the other side of the world and not using transport which will definitely change me as a person.
My highlight was talking to Mr Law. He showed me some clouds but they weren’t just ordinary clouds; they looked like mountains! They were unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like it.
My favourite moment was listening to the lapwings because it was so peaceful. It was so different to the sound of Harrogate because there were no cars.
Walking down Fremington Edge with Oli M was my best moment because he was scared of the height on top of the edge so I went to talk to him to distract him and when he started to relax I felt really proud because I knew I had helped someone.
I have learnt that I can do things but I have to believe I can.
Standing on top of Fremington Edge with my friends was my best moment because it made me feel like I could do anything and see anything and I could believe in anything or anyone.
I felt calm, content and happy to be in the middle of nature.
My best moment was definitely looking at the amazing view at the top of Fremington Edge.
I will walk to high school and back and I want to do more of it.
Grinton is the most amazing trip I’ve experienced in my life so far.
I found walking more fun because you get to know more about nature.
I think walking has been tiring and challenging but the feelings once you have achieved your goal are amazing and make you feel better about yourself.
Toasting marshmallows was my favourite bit because we had time to reflect on the week.
I have really enjoyed walking because it makes you excited for the day ahead of you. I will definitely do more of it.
I liked leaning back in the wind because it felt like I was flying.
I’ve learned that I can push myself to do things I never even dreamed of doing.
I have learnt I can be happy in any situation; I can make new friends if I try.
Standing on Fremington Edge was my best moment because it made me feel proud.
